I often hear people say to “follow your passions and the money will come”
Those same people have a mentality of “if you build it, they will come” or some other “law of attraction” misrepresentation.
The real world told me (and has prob told you too) that is a lie!
Only uninformed people passing along info they heard and think sounds nice says that bs.
We know that how you make money and liking how you make money does not have to be the same thing.
Hell, there’s a good chance that the money you make now in your 9-5 isn’t something you are passionate about
But when the topic of following your passions to make a business comes up for most people
they don’t think about the possibility that your passion may be sitting in nature in solitude.
Guess what, you won’t get paid doing that!
However, what if you are able to lead a hike full of paying customers to your favorite place in nature…or get paid to teach people how to meditate?
These are ways to get paid doing your passion…kinda, but you prob won’t make a good business from that either
(but it’s a better idea, and closer to what does work)
The question is, how do you know if your business idea will make money, or what to do when you don’t have a business idea?
Well, you have to learn how to do proper research, and find a problem that people would pay to have solved.
I go into depth in this in the Get Off the Bench Challenge, but to give an idea that you can implement now…
Follow these steps,
1) search google for other people doing what you like to do: for example, “local knitting circles”
Google will give you information on different clubs, forums, and meetup groups, etc.
2) search for the same thing in Facebook
Facebook will show you Facebook groups and business pages of the same stuff.
3) join the groups, forums and in person meet ups.
4) start to talk to your new friends about what they do and why they do it.
5) ask about struggles and pains they may have while doing this activity (or not being able to do the activity)
6) see what you can do to solve their problem
7) put together a solution template or idea to solve the problem and ask your new friends if this would work for them…
8) if yes, ask them to buy right now! if no, ask to see how to make it something they would buy.
9) either refine the idea from the feedback and ask again or go ahead and implement with the pre-sale money.
10) profit
Now you have direct feedback from the people who are willing to pay you, and you did this without paying a dime in research!
And guess what, this can work for just about anything out there.
This is what Get Off the Bench Challenge is all about…click this link to find out more.
But now, when people say “follow your passion to find a business” you now know how to actually do that
