I’m gonna level with you…I have been putting off doing what my coach told me to do.
And guess what?
I’ve been paying the price for that.
As you may know, I invest in real estate…raw land to be exact. Its easy to get into, its easy to acquire land for pennies on the dollar, and its easy to find an audience of buyer. If you want to know more about it, comment below!
Anyway, once you get past the newbie stage, and you are ready to scale up (you know, buy more land and sell more land quickly) you have to change a few habits. That’s where my coach comes in.
He has been instructing me how to “zig” when others in my industry “zag.” In other words, go against the pack to separate myself from everyone else.
However, as we know, doing things that are uncomfortable or difficult can make a person put things off…and that’s what I did kinda.
Ya see, there’s an area I like to acquire land from. But, instead of doing the research and targeting people who need my help lie my coach suggested, I did the “shot gun” approach and tried to reach everybody. That approach failed!
Not only did that approach fail, but I spent a lot of money doing failing. My coach warned me about the “shot gun approach”and why it would not work. He also explained that it would cost me a lot of money.
But, I didn’t listen for 2 reasons.
- I wanted to take massive action. I was inactive in land investing while getting this blog together and learning some marketing skills. I felt I needed to catch up quickly
- I wanted to do things my way, which included creating tools and systems to make things easier for the new things he said I had to do. I tried to automate prematurely.
So, when it was time to go back to my coach for our weekly phone call, and he asked me about my progress, I had to let him know that I failed.
Now, I’ve always prided myself on being a good student. I figure that I want my coaches and mentors to love working with me. That way I can show that they made the right choice to choose to work with me. Also, I’m paying for their knowledge, I want to do what I can to get my moneys worth, lol.
So,when I head the frustration and disappointment in his voice, it got to me. I knew I wasn’t at my best. I may write about F.E.A.R. but I’m human. I fall victim to it too!
But, this is the thing about a good coach. They don’t just get mad and wash their hands of you. No! He also admitted that he had so much information to share, its easy to forget details and its easy to get overwhelmed.
We figured out a plan of action…one that I have to execute, otherwise I’m doomed to more failure. I will be letting him down, but more importantly, I would be letting myself and my family down. they are depending on me to free myself from the corporate chains of oppression! These side hustles will be the main way I make money soon.
Learn from my mistake…when a successful person tells you to do something so you can also be successful, DO IT.
