Is Money the root of all evil?

I had a brief interaction on Facebook recently…maybe you witnessed it while it happened.

I shared my blog post about Shiny Object Syndrome which lead to a person to comment and share how they agreed with the post’s message.

As we continued to talk, that person made a comment about how money isn’t a problem in their life (even though they admitted to working 2 jobs) and that money is the root of all evil.

First off, people who need to work 2 jobs but fails to realize they have a money problem definitely have a money problem (like most people), so Its hard to take their opinion on the matter seriously.

With that said, my first thought was to inform them that type of thinking was coming from a broke persons mindset, but, I also understood this was a teachable moment.

Part of the problem most of us have with money is that we are trained and conditioned to think of it a certain way, and its usually not positive.

You can read more about that in my post about a broke mindset

I wont reiterate them again, but in general, until we change our mindset about what money is and what it means, you will never be able to make any real money.

I’m talking about the type of money where you never have to worry about paying bills, buying food

Having extra cash at the end of the month

Being able to afford the best education and resources for yourself and your children.

But, the question remains, is money the root of all evil?

The answer to that is No…

HELL NO!

When you ask people about that, they will be quick to tell you some of the low down and dirty things people have done to get (or keep) money.

Those stories are undeniable and are terrible…

…but who was in control of the people doing those terrible things

the person themselves, or “the money?

Let me prase it this way:

If I go to the hardware store and I buy a hammer, but I use that hammer to commit murder, who is to blame, me or the hammer?

Now, what if I take that same hammer (clean off the blood from the murder, lol) and I use it to build homes for the homeless

is it still an evil hammer?

In both cases I was the cause of those actions!

Just like the hammer, money is a tool.

It can be used for good or evil…the tool itself can be misused, or it can be used for its intended purpose in a way that uplifts.

So,  if I make a lot of money, but I donate it to various charities

use it to build homes for the homeless

build churches

Pay for children’s education…

is it still evil?

If I use that money to provide food, shelter and clothing for my family, is it evil now?

What if I just use that money to pay people for their goods or services that I need, now is it evil?

You see my point now.

So, the next time you hear someone say such a thing, please correct them. Help the see the error of their ways, it may just help them change their view on money which can help them get more of it!
