So, let me, tell you a brief story of a conversation I had with my sister in law
she was telling me about a guy she’s been testing the dating waters with
they met right before the shelter in place stuff happened, but since then can only text, call and video chat
the other night, she had a “date” with this guy to video chat.
I guess it was a snore fest because let’s be honest, there’s not much to talk about when you are stuck at home everyday
Anyway, as my sister-in-law was complaining about his lack of participation in the conversation
She went on to say that the dude in question is a lil frustrated with his job, and is sticking out to get a promotion.
he wants this promotion for his resume so he can…. I don’t know…get a new job? to have bragging rights?
(Does his situation sound familiar to you??)
Why does he want these things? Well, the obvious answer is for “more money”
but I asked my sister in law to ask him to go deeper.
Why does he want more money? If he wants to buy a house, why? Why is he so unsatisfied with his current job?
Bottom line, I suggested that she basically ask
“what do you really want out of life? And are things you do gonna get you there?”
Most people don’t have an answer to this.
You are reading this because you want to get out of your 9-5 and live a life of freedom…
But, what does that mean to you?
Have you actually pictured what your life would be like if you got to leave your job?
Some people are in such finical dire straits that they can only look hours into the future to see how they will make it.
That type of thinking traps you because you wont make an escape plan!
Others folks can only see month to month, but those who have the most fulfillment in life can see years out…
they set goals to help them led the lives they want….Lives with meaning and purpose!
Sure, being financially free is nice, but after being on a beach for a week or 2 you WILL GET BORED!
Bottom line is this, you need to understand what you are striving for, otherwise whats the point?
Some people don’t want to look at this part of their life because it will bring up some harsh realities.
but I know you are different…so here’s an exercise you can do to start the process to figure out what you want out of life
First, picture your perfect day.
Don’t worry, you have all the things you need to have this perfect day
The money, the home, the cars, the connections, the skills, whatever it is.
Then map out your day from when you first open your eyes till when you go back to bed that night.
no detail is too small!
for example:
6am wake up
6:05 morning gratitude practice
6:15 work out
7:00 eat breakfast with my loving family
7:30 take my kids to the best school in the area
8am go to the charitable foundation I started to inspire the volunteers for our big fundraiser
9am write my email to my list and make another 100 sales of a $100 product
9:30am work on my project car
noon: make love to many beautiful women on a big pile of money…
etc. etc. etc.
Whatever this day looks like for you, map it out.
This may be a difficult thing to do because I’m sure you’ve never had to think about this before.
that’s because your employee mindset only teaches you to look a short time into the future.
If you want to have actual success, you need to define what that is…and this exercise is a great way to show you what success is to you
once done, I would love to see what you come up with…so send it to me!
I’m looking forward to getting a peak at your perfect day
