I think we have all been there before, right?
Something bad happens to us, and we wonder if we did something to cause it.
Maybe it was an illness or accident?
Perhaps, a loved one was injured or passed away?
Maybe you lost your job and it was out of your control?
Some of us even complain about very minor things, like a flat tire or or some first world problem like “my WiFi is down!” or “starbucks is out of my favorite drink.”
Regardless, we’ve all been there, where we asked “Why is this happening to me??”
Well, I want to help you re-frame your thinking. Instead of asking “why is this happening to me” start thinking “what did I do to cause this?”
Its a subtle difference in words, but a major difference in mindset.
Allow me to explain.
I think we can all agree everything happens for a reason, right?
Some of us may feel that way because of religion teaches us this.
Others think in more of a “that’s just how it goes” mentality.
I used to think along both of these thought patterns.
I however look at it a little differently with my new mind set.
Everything happens because of a previous choice I made.
That’s right, even the things that seems to be out of my control, are really in my control.
Watch how this works.
I got in a car accident?
I should have been paying better attention to the road and other drivers.
But, I got rear ended from a red light runner?
I could have left the house earlier or later. I could have been in another lane.
I got fired from a job.
I should have been a better employee.
The manager was terrible and used me as a scapegoat?
I should have not taken the job, and recognized bad leadership from the interview.
Or I could have seen the bad leadership while I was working and made plans to leave that company.
You see what I mean?
Some of these may seem like I’m reaching…but this is all an example of extreme ownership!
This is the type of thinking successful leaders have.
They take responsibility for everyone under their watch.
It may seem tough, but look at it this way…this just proves that I have complete control over my destiny!
I don’t let anyone make decision for me or how my life will turn out. I’m in complete control, so this means I can build toward the life I want.
This also works in my benefit.
Just like my post about success is not luck I can take control over it. I can start making the habits that will create success…like reading daily.
The more I make winning decisions, the more I can guarantee my success!
I can also decide who I want to do business with, how I want to spend my time, how I want to show up to the world, etc.
I challenge you to change your mindset and understand that you have more control than you realize.
There are people out there that want you to stay asleep to this fact.
Why?
So, they can dictate your time, schedule, how you spend your money, and what you think about.
They know that as long as you feel out of control, they can insert control, and you will just accept it.
That’s too much power to give someone else!
Think about it right now, who have you given your power to by making excuses, or blaming other people or events that are really in your control?
If so, its time to take your power back, and use it to do great things!
